BIOGRAPHY:

Vengai Chiwawa was born in 1975 in Guruve, a region with a strong sculpting tradition. Vengai was only seven when he finished his first sculpture, a rabbit. With both parents being sculptors, he knew very young that he was dedicating himself to sculpting. He was only 15 when he decided that this was what he wanted to do with his life.

Vengai is the son of renowned first generation artist Edward Chiwawa. His father taught him the crafts and taught him to see and preserve the life that is in each piece of stone. His mother was a major inspiration for his woman sculptures. He admired her for her strength and gentleness. A quality he finds in women in general. Chiwawa's pieces are inspired by his daily surroundings, with women being a major inspiration.
