Perry Haddock is a West Coast artist known for his colourful, energetic acrylic landscapes that capture both the spirit of place and the joy of painting. A senior signature member (SFCA) of the Federation of Canadian Artists, Perry spent many years as a high school teacher and counsellor before following his passion for art full-time. More than twenty-five years later, he’s still exploring new ways to express the landscape—pushing the boundaries of colour, movement, and emotion in every piece. From the rugged shores of B.C. to far-flung destinations gathered from his travels, Perry’s signature style always shines through: bold colours, spontaneous brushwork, and a sense of freedom that draws people in. It’s that same energy and openness that make his workshops so popular —welcoming artists to experiment, take risks, and find their own voice. Perry paints from his home studio in Surrey, B.C., where he lives with his wife, Rene. When Perry’s not in the studio, they’re often off visiting family and friends in Europe and the UK or exploring new corners of the world. Past adventures in Central America, China, and Canada’s East Coast have filled his mind—and his sketchbooks—with a lifetime of inspiration. His work can be found in private collections across Canada, Europe, China, Australia, and the U.S., and he’s proud to be represented by several galleries throughout Western Canada. He’s especially happy to be back in his home town, and now represented by the Ukama Gallery on Granville Island.
Artist Statement: Art is my way of translating mood into form. Whether painting, singing, or playing music, I respond to the world emotionally—and I want my work to reflect that. I choose watercolour and acrylic for their immediacy and unpredictability, embracing the balance between intention and spontaneity. My subjects span Italian coastlines, Parisian markets, and Canadian landscapes, but my focus is always on capturing the essence of a moment—not its details. Sketching on-site allows me to distill reality into impression, creating raw material I later refine in the studio. British Columbia’s west coast is my anchor, and its land and waters are my most familiar muse. Travel across Canada and Europe fuels my curiosity, pushing me to explore new palettes and compositions while keeping my creative energy alive.
